Q & A with Kate

Favorite thing about working at the Credit Union?
The co-workers that I get to work with who have become more like family than just people I work with.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I spend all my free time with my husband and kids and depending on the season will depend on what we are doing. Winter is spent ice fishing and snowmobiling; Spring is spent ice fishing if there is still good ice available otherwise as soon as the weather gets nice car season begins and kicks into high gear throughout summer. I love to watch and when allowed to, ride with my husband when he races. The best part is watching him win! Fall will typically find us finishing out the car season and gearing up for hunting. There is never a dull or down moment at our house.

Favorite place you’ve been and why?
No particular place stands out yet that has become my favorite place. I have a whole laundry list of places I want to go in the future, but I would have to say Brainerd International Raceway is one of my favorite places to go during the summer months to watch all different kinds of racing – my favorite is when NHRA comes to town!

Favorite movie/TV Show and why?
My guilty pleasure is watching the Real Housewives franchise! I find it fascinating to watch all the drama that happens and am thankful that I live a very drama free life.

Do you have a favorite quote? What is it?

One of my favorite quotes is from an old “work” mom I had. She would often say “I know nothing, I play Bingo.” Not sure why that stuck with me, but she was a favorite of mine and always had great advice!

Donation of Winner’s Choosing

As a part of the award, the Credit Union will donate $50 to the organization of the winner’s choosing, on their behalf. This quarter $50 will be donated to: The Tri-County Humane Society. Tri-County Humane Society (TCHS) operates an independent nonprofit animal shelter in St. Cloud, Minnesota. TCHS has been providing quality services to the people and animals of Central Minnesota since 1974.

Kate Lauer

I would like to nominate Kate Lauer.

I will try and due her justice in this nomination however I am not sure I can properly put into words everything she does for our team, members, and the Credit union on a daily basis.

Unity: Kate wears so many different hats in one day. One minute she is an underwriter, the next a processor, the next a problem solver, then a backup, all while training and helping teammates learn in different departments.

Innovation: When I have questions, Kate is probably my first stop. She does so many different things, she is a wealth of knowledge, and can normally answer my question. If she doesn’t know the answer, she will point me in the right direction or find out the answer and get back to me.

Authenticity: As an Underwriter it is her job to make sure she is protecting the Credit Union’s interests as well as helping our members. Believe me, this is not an easy task, however she makes it look easy. Honesty, fairness, and consistency is the backbone of underwriting.

Relationships: Kate has always treated me with respect! She also realizes when I come to her with a question or concern it is not “my problem” but a member problem that needs a solution. She always has the member as her number one priority. It cannot be understated how important this is. Without our members we are not a credit union! Every time I speak with Kate I end up with a smile on my face

Empowerment: Anything Kate does she owns it. Again, she does so many different things on any given day (I cannot even begin to describe it because I have a hard time keeping up with everything she is doing). She kills it every single day.

Without Kate I can honestly say I would not be able to do my job as a loan officer. She is either processing or underwriting almost every loan I do. She has helped when “it wasn’t her job” but will make sure the members are taken care of and the loan is closing on time!!!

Nominator: Stefan Schpuntow
