A Letter from our CEO.

Dear Members,

On behalf of the Board of Directors at Great River Federal Credit Union, we are pleased to share exciting news with you.  As part of our goal to expand and reach more members and communities, Great River FCU and GEM Federal Credit Union of Minot, ND are joining forces to create a credit union of 18,000 members and $300 million in assets. We will operate 8 branch locations that are within 2 neighboring states.

Our name will stay the same and continue to be led by the same leadership that is currently in place.  GEM FCU will keep its name for 2 years, but immediately have a notation behind their name to read, “GEM Federal Credit Union, a Division of Great River Federal Credit Union”.  GEM will operate under the same Charter as GRFCU and eventually have the same products and services.

A merger between our two credit unions brings our collective members more physical reach, and more support with new team member and Board Member expertise and perspective.  After meeting the team from GEM and hearing their story, our leaders felt it was a natural fit and we could both benefit from a partnership.

We have already performed the required financial and operational due diligence and have received approval from the National Credit Union Administration to proceed.  The GEM FCU team has conducted a member vote of the merger and it was accepted December 15, 2021.  The official merge will happen on January 31, 2022.

Our time over the next several months will be to merge products and services through our core system and make sure everything is done as seamlessly as possible for those members of GEM FCU.  This is an exciting and challenging opportunity, and we are eager to move forward.

The team at Great River will continually keep our members informed via email communication, as well as our website.  Please keep an eye out.

Thank you for your membership!  We appreciate you.
